Opportunity to coach talented team at Toronto

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Maple Leafs have named Craig Berube as their new head coach after firing Sheldon Keefe on Monday.

Berube was fired by the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday after five seasons with the team. He led the Blues to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2019.

"I am excited to join the Toronto Maple Leafs and I am looking forward to the challenge of helping this team win a Stanley Cup," Berube said in a statement. "I believe that this team has the potential to be a contender and I am confident that we can achieve great things together."

Berube has a career coaching record of 274-195-51. He spent the first three seasons of his coaching career with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Maple Leafs have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967. They have not reached the Stanley Cup Final since 2002.
